Erin Laing Clinical Oncology Society of Australia Annual Scientific Meeting 2023

Erin Laing

Dr Laing is a senior clinical dietitian and post-doctoral researcher at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, with over 12 years experience in gastrointestinal cancer management. In 2016 she aided in the establishment of a dietitian NET clinic, to run alongside the NET multidisciplinary clinic at Peter Mac, the first public nutrition clinic in Australia dedicated to NET management. Her PhD investigated the nutrition-related symptoms, quality of life and complications of gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumours (NETS). Dr Laing is internationally recognised for her neuroendocrine cancer expertise, with publications arising from her PhD resulting in the inclusion of nutrition as a supportive care priority, for the first-time, in NET clinical practice guidelines in both Australia and internationally. She holds positions on the International Neuroendocrine Cancer Alliance Medical Advisory Panel, Clinical Oncology Society of Australia Neuroendocrine Tumour Executive Commitee, Australasian Gastrointestinal Trials Group Upper Gastrointestinal Working Party, and is chair of the Nutrition Working Group of the Commonwealth Neuroendocrine Tumor Society Research Collaborative (CommNETs). She is currently leading the development of international nutritional guidelines for NETs, through her role as chair of the nutritional working group at CommNETs, and has led the development of a novel nutrition-risk screening tool for NETs, in collaboration with medical colleagues at Royal North Shore Hospital (Sydney) and NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia.
